Electroencephalogram (EEG) for Epilepsy & Stroke

An electroencephalogram (EEG) is a test that detects electrical activity in your brain. Your brain cells are always active and communicating via tiny electrical impulses even when you sleep. This activity shows up as wavy lines on the EEG recorder.

EEG is one of the main diagnostic tests for epilepsy and stroke, as well as other neurological and brain disorders. The EEG reveals changes in brain activity that may be useful in diagnosing or treating:

  • Epilepsy or other seizure disorders
  • Brain tumors
  • Head injuries
  • Brain dysfunction due to varied causes (encephalopathy)
  • Brain inflammation (encephalitis)
  • Stroke
  • Sleep disorders
  • Dementia
